Inspiration--A One Shot

I was inspired by a photo.  I am writing this literally right here, right now.  Let's see how it goes.

We were sitting in a bar/pub, watching a band play onstage.  They were friends of his, the guitarist being a friend since his what I would call elementary school days.  I'd occasionally glance over at him, this slight smile painted across his face as he watched them sing and play.  I normally didn't like the bands he made me watch or listen to, but these guys had something. What that something was, I have no idea.  I leaned into his ear, excusing myself to get a drink of water and to use the restroom.  He never took his eyes off the stage, he just nodded.  I kissed his cheek, and forced my way through the crowd.

After coming out of the bathroom, which barely muffled the sounds of rock guitars and drums, I stood at the bar, waiting for someone to notice me.  And while the bartender filled a glass of water and ice, I eyed the wall looking for my boyfriend.  I found him, laughing at his friend while he made eyes at some random woman in the crowd.  And then, his face went back to concentrating on the show.  He didn't seem worried about where I was, or what was taking me so long.  He looked...peaceful.  And I couldn't help but smile at his tranquility.  Even after I'd been handed my glass of ice water, I stood there, watching him from afar.  After staring for what seemed too long, I worked myself back through the crowd to our bench against the wall.

"Where were you?"  He asked me in that shouting voice that people tend to gain when they're at concerts.  This time, he was looking directly at me.

"I was detained at the bar.  Bartenders had more important clients than a woman wanting ice water," I replied, sipping from my glass.  "How's the show going?"

"Good.  Liam is making eyes at some blonde bird in the crowd.  She has small boobs, and not much of a brain.  She'll be perfect for him," he voices, taking a drink of his beer.  I nod empathetically.

A few minutes later, the song changes pace, to a ballad.  Aidan and I have spent the entirety of this concert sitting side-by-side, our shoulders touching, but anything resembling romance was completely lacking.  As the song reached its climax, Liam speaks to the crowd, thanking us all for coming out tonight and supporting them.  Then, he makes a special thanks to his best mate Aidan, for coming out to support the band.  I look at Aidan, and he's amazed his friend is being so candid, because Liam is known for being the shy one of the band.

The band announces they're playing one last song, and it's a slow one.  They're playing 'Unintended' by Muse.  It's a particular favorite song of mine, and Aidan knows this.  He sits beside me, his eyes focused on the band and crowd.  I kind of drift off into a different place, letting the music take me away.

I am brought back to the pub when Aidan just mindlessly places his hand on my thigh.  I look down at my leg, silently watching his thumb  move back and forth across my thigh.  I look up and over at Aidan.  I am seriously shocked by this.  We've been together over a year, but he's never once done this.  I just look at him, and he looks at me, as if I have seen some gravy on his face or something.  I just smile, which makes his face soften.

I lean in, and kiss him.  Softly, but deeply.  And then I lay my head on his shoulder, and he wraps his arm around me, kissing the top of my head.  I think he whispers he loved me into my head, but I don't notice.

--The End--

So, how did I do?  I was interrupted a few times, and I changed the music to flow with the story.  And yes, I did listen to 'Unintended' by Muse, because it's seriously a really great song.
